Tilt: Avoiding the Unavoidable

Tilt. My personal definition of tilt is a psychological state of mind that incurs the best of players to fall to their doom. In this article I will answer the following questions, Why does tilt occur, what can you do to avoid tilt and if tilt is inevitable what should you do?

Tilt is that driving force that “makes” you act irrationally at the table. Tilt is what every player around you wishes you would undertake for their benefit. If you are trying to be a successful, professional player, tilt is the devil!

Tilt occurs, mainly, because you have taken a hit and lost a couple of chips. This may be because you misplayed a hand, thought you were good when you were not or simply suffered a bad beat. Have you ever been beaten by a higher full house? Your hear starts beating faster, your face turns red, you will do anything to get your chips back as quick as possible. This is tilt. You actual emotional/psychological state has changed. If you are suffering tilt, there are chemicals in your brain that have engaged this feeling; your mind state has changed you rational out the door. Subsequently I will tell you how to deal with tilt, but first I will tell you how to avoid this terrible danger.

Avoiding tilt. This suggestion will definitely be easier said than done, but if you have ever watched the “pros” the one thing I will give them credit for, other than having large bankrolls and doing nothing with their lives, is avoiding tilt. If you watch a “pro” in my opinion player such as Ivey, Howard L, Chan, these players can play one hand to the next as if the last one did not happen – this is the key. To avoid tilt you simply – and I say simply hesitantly – must play every hand like the last one did not exist. Now do not take this in the sense that you should not be monitoring players’ moves, actions, patterns and how the table is playing. When I say play every hand like the last one did not happen I mean forget about the chips you lost, or even gained in the previous hands.

You must treat every hand like it is a fresh one, do not focus on losses DO NOT focus on wins – as most players downfall is to play to loose after winning a few hands. Furthermore, another form of tilt is to have won some hands and subsequently loose chips until you are “even” or possibly negative. Overall you must learn how to control your emotions and this overlaps into the “what you should do if tilt occurs” this again is easier said then done but you can practice in everyday life. When you are in a certain emotional state you must decipher why you are in the state and see if you can manipulate yourself to change that state. For example, you are angry for some reason, try and figure out why exactly it is you are angry, talk to yourself about it, try and find something good out of the situation, maybe a life lesson. If you are able to control your emotions than you WILL be able to control tilt. When tilt occurs….STOP….reason with yourself, help yourself understand why and talk your way out of it. By no means is this an easy exercise but if you can master this you can master the game.

The Elusive History of Poker

Poker is called the American national game. But in reality, poker comes as close to being international as any card game possibly could. It probably originated in Persia; it developed in Europe; it did attain its present form in the United States -- probably in the 1830s -- but today it is played in every country in which playing cards are known. Nevertheless, since poker reached those countries from the United States and since it is internationally known as our national game, every American as a point of patriotic pride should know how to play an acceptable game of poker.

No one knows surely where poker originated, when it originated, or how it got its name. The basic principle of poker is that the most unusual combination of cards is the winning hand. This is such an obvious basis for a game that there may have been ancestors of poker stretching back to the year 894 a.d., when playing cards were invented. (They were invented by the Chinese.)

At least four hundred years ago the Persians had a game called As Nas in which there was a twenty-card deck, four players, five cards dealt to each, and betting on which player had the best hand. Since no cards were left over, there could be no draw; and the idea of stud poker had not yet been thought of. As early as the late 1600s, the Germans had a game that they called pochen, their word meaning to "bluff," or "to brag," and from this game developed the early English game brag and the French game poque. It cannot be proved, but it is irresistibly plausible that our name poker derived from this French name poque.

Until the Louisiana Purchase, in the year 1803, New Orleans and the entire Mississippi River and its valley were French territory. The people spoke French and if they played card games they played French card games. After the Louisiana Purchase thousands of English-speaking citizens of the new United States poured into the territory and took over the city of New Orleans and the Mississippi Valley, but they could not help being influenced by the French customs and terms that they found there. So they adopted the French game poque but changed its name to the familiar English word poker. That, at least, is the logical assumption; and while no one can prove it, all poker historians have accepted it.

We are all familiar with the prototype (and stereotype) of the Mississippi River steamboat game that arose sometime in the 1830s and prevailed at least until the Civil War. The rules were very simple. Each player was dealt five cards face down, and after the deal was finished everyone bet on whether or not he had the best hand. There was no limit and either of two customs governed the betting (it is hard, here, to differentiate between fact and legend): A man could bet anything he wanted to. His opponent, according to some stories, could always call ("have a sight") for as much money as he had with him; or, according to other stories, his opponent was always given twenty-four hours to raise the money required to call.

The entire history of poker since that time is the history of repeated efforts to pep up the game, to encourage players to stay in and to bet. Mathematically, a man playing straight poker (no draw) in a two-handed game should bet against his one opponent if he has some such hand as a pair of fives. Psychologically it doesn't work out that way. The hand just doesn't look good enough. So first the element of the draw was added, giving a venturesome player hope of improving when he wasn't dealt a good hand originally; then a few extra winning hands, such as the straight, were added; then the ante was added, so that there would always be something in the pot for a player to shoot for; then came wild cards, and then stud poker, and then freak games of all kinds, and now it has reached a point at which there are probably thousands of different games called poker.

All of these variations are all related yet no two are exactly alike. Therefore you can make few general statements that apply to all games; in fact, you can make few general statements that apply to even two or three games.

10 Tips That Will Give You Unfair Advantage At The Poker Table When Playing Texas Hold'em Poker

Playing poker and winning is a very hard undertaking to do, you can lose most of the times specially if you don't cognize the small soiled psychological science secrets that anybody playing poker for existent have to understand.

1. Don't anticipate people to play like you.

Even good players have got different conceptions about how to do a good game. Don't number on other good players to make what you would make in a certain situation. There is more than than one manner to be right.

2. Look your oppositions in the eye.

See who they are and survey their features. Get to cognize them. This observation will do you fear them less.

3. Try playing in silence.

Silent play is an mental image play, sure, but here's something else to consider: When you play in silence, you stop up holding more than elaborate "inner conversations" with yourself, which improves your concentration, and also your play.

4. See things as they are.

Wishful thinking like awful thinking takes to bad decisions. Brand your determinations based on existent information, not on what you trust or fearfulness that your oppositions hold. It's bad adequate to acquire bluffed by person else but even worse to acquire bluffed by yourself.

5. Keep it impersonal.

At the poker table it's easy to acquire sucked into our opponents' personalities. When you're driven by the desire to beat the player in place four, just because he haps to be a jerk, you're moving away from your good game and into the unsafe teritory of personality poker. To maintain it profitable, you have got to maintain it impersonal.

6. React to change.

A poker game is not static. It's a dynamic, living being that alterations from minute to moment. You have got to react to those changes. Just because a player was bluffing an hr ago doesn't intend he's bluffing now. Have he lost a batch of money since then? Have he had a few bluffs? Be up-to-the-second in your thinking or be prepared to travel place broke.

7. Beware subjective reality.

When the manus you folded an hr ago is the manus you raise with now, it's time to acquire up and travel home.

8. Serve your game, not your ego.

Serving your egotism in a poker game is not your intent and it will harm you. It will only overcast your card sense with a batch of irrelevant issues, and also estrange your opponents. Be humble, enactment humble, and go forth your egotism at home.

9. Rich Person a scenario.

When you're in a manus against one or more than opponents, set them on something. Brand your best conjecture about their holding in visible light of their betting. It sounds obvious, I know, but so many of us acquire so caught up in our ain hands that we don't halt to consider, really consider, what our enemies are up to until it's too late. If you have got got a scenario, you may be incorrect but at least you have a opportunity to be right. If you don't believe about what they have, then you have got got no opportunity of being right.

10. Should you number your money at the table?

Ideally you have got so much money that you can't number that high, but seek not to make this.

Custom Clay Poker Chips

Betting the internet is a sure thing for those custom clay poker chips you have been looking for? You’re probably right. There are hundreds of clay poker chip distributors out there that sell chips and most have the option of going customized or stock. You won’t face a problem with options available or a place to buy your custom chips, if anything; you need help narrowing it down from the many choices available.

When gathering your information, look at poker chip chat rooms, reviews on custom chip auction sites and use word of mouth. Where are all your buddies buying their custom clay poker chip sets? What you do not want to do is choose where to buy your custom chips by price alone. If you are in the custom clay chip market, price should be one of your last considerations when shopping. Picking by price alone will end up getting you a metal insert, injection molded chip that is the farthest thing from a pure clay poker chip as you could imagine. It doesn’t matter what the add says.

While you shop around to get the best price on your poker chips, make sure that you are comparing the exact same clay chips before you make a decision. It may come down to something as small, but still important as .5 of a gram in weight or the use of lead dust in the manufacturing process. A small difference of .5 gram in the weight of your clay poker chip will also be reflected in the price as the lead will add weight and replace the amount of clay needed to make weight.

When looking back and forth comparing prices of custom clay poker stacks make sure that the weights, diameters, design complexity, material and case are of the same quality. From there you can make an educated guess that you are truly getting a good deal on your clay chips and not making the mistake of comparing prices between two chip sets that vary in quality.

Remember that when you go with a clay custom setup, you are going to get what you pay for. If it seems like a steal and too good to be true, it probably is. On a parting note, if you are going to be buying your custom clay chips for a large poker organization and not just a 10 player game, you may want to look into a wholesaler. After the setup charge, going this route can save you big time on repeat and volume orders of customized clay chips.

What Is A Good Weight For Poker Chips?

I have been playing poker since my college days. I went to a small school in western Massachusetts. The funny thing is back in those days we would use anything as poker chips. It was not uncommon for us to scrape our pennies together or even break open a bag of potatoes chips that we heisted from the dorm room across the hall to use as our poker chips. Well since then I have matured and in this article I will talk about 13.5g poker chips.

I highly recommend using 13.5g poker chips.13.5g poker chips are the heaviest chips available on the poker market today and are typically of the highest quality grade. These poker chips feel like casino quality chips because they usually are casino quality and are a ton of fun to play with. In fact, these chips are usually better then casino quality poker chips. Think about it a little. The companies that produce these chips have stiff competition and casinos would not pay that much money for the quality of the chips we get on the market! A typical casino uses the 11.5 gram chips that are 39mm in diameter.

The 13.5 gram chips are a little heavier and usually a stronger chip. Again I recommend these. For example, when you have your buddies over playing a tourney and they are dropping the chips on the floor and spilling beer on them. Figuring out what kind of poker chip to splurge on, especially if you play often is important too. Those of you who host poker games should make sure your chips can withstand the consistent handling. (see above about dropping on floor) 13.5g chips are perfect for regular players because the wear and tear that human hands place on chips can be a force. Poker chips are often handled aggressively, (everyone likes to shuffle them etc..) and the cheap ones just may fall victim to the trash can after a dozen games.

Your 13.5g poker chips will compliment your poker set nicely. Good poker supplies make a huge difference in the world. Don't ever even think about short changing your game if it is something you really like. Spend a few extra bucks to get something nice that will last you a lifetime.

You can find 13.5g poker chips pretty much anywhere now. I have seen them at casinos, novelty stores, gaming stores but more importantly online gaming stores. Online gaming stores are turning up all over cyberspace and will often provide you with far cheaper price options for your high quality poker chips. If you don't feel like hopping in your car and heading to a local store, then do yourself a favor and take a peek and see what you can find on the web. However, be careful, do some homework, and don't settle on a store that is not highly suggested by other poker nuts!

In conclusion, take your time when choosing your 13.5g poker chips. Do some quick research and find a reliable source for your poker chips and accessories. Make sure you find the cheapest price for the amount of chips your willing to purchase. So at your next poker tournament that you host you will look like a king and not a peasant!

television with a regular audience tuning in each week. People don’t need to go to
the Casino anymore. They can buy their own set of World Series of Poker chip sets
and enjoy a social game of poker in their own home using these poker chip sets.

Poker is a game that can be enjoyed by poker players of all levels and in recent
years, professional poker has soared in popularity as people head to their local
casinos or join up with online poker rooms in an effort to try their hand at a
tournament or competition. Cable networks have also recognized this recent trend
towards poker popularity and as a result are now profiting from America’s love of

With poker's newfound popularity thanks to World Series of Poker, everyone wants
to get their hands on some World Series of Poker chips to use at home for a game of
poker with family and friends. Despite the negative image that people sometimes
have of gambling, poker is actually a fun and very harmless game and gives many
people hours of enjoyment each week. In actual fact poker actually requires a lot of
probability and mathematical computations on the part of the players so a sharp,
quick mind is an important asset.

In decades gone by, professional poker players were not the stars that they are
today. There was no such thing as the World Series of Poker where the best poker
players in the world played for a million dollars. Before the 1950s, the only feasible
way to get good at poker was through years and years of experience and nerves of
steel. Nothing much has changed now – while the players of today are not
necessarily hardened criminals like players of yesteryear they still require nerves of
steel, a good knowledge of the game and the strategy behind the game, along with
own set of World Series of Poker chips.

Texas Hold’em World Series of Poker chip sets are somewhat different from other
poker chip sets. When it comes to Hold’em, you are going to need more chips than
most other games because of the betting process that takes place during the course
of the game. Texas Hold’em is a game that is played by the most competitive and
competent poker players but to win you need to play your cards and your skill.

Hold’em can be quite an expensive game so players need plenty of chips and plenty
of denominations to keep them in the game. People tend to enjoy betting large to
really get under their opponents skin and test their resolve in this game. This
requires Texas Hold’em to have high chip values in comparison to the lowest chip.

Each chip within Texas Hold’em World Series of Poker chip sets has Texas Hold’em
engraved on the front and back and the color schemes are kept rather simple. The
base color is going to be only covered by black or white stripes that end before you
hit the center of the chip. These are the ideal chips for social and semi professional
poker players who play regularly.

Texas Hold’em World Series of Poker chip sets are usually made of high quality clay
and the imprints made are presented in great detail. The sets come in a professional
carrying case which protects chips at all times for storage, travel and organization.

Poker Etiquette

MINDING YOUR P’S AND Q’S (AND YOUR ACES AND KINGS)

A cardinal to enjoying poker (besides winning money) is playing in a game that moves along and is not interrupted by disputes. Here are some tips to see a smooth game:

• KNOW THE RULES
It is of import to larn the rankings of the hands. By constantly referring to a “cheat sheet,’ you slow down the game. More importantly, you are also essentially telling everyone what’s inch your hand. For instance, let’s state you are playing seven-card stud, and it looks like person might have got got a consecutive and that you may have a flush. If you have got got to check up on to see if a flush beats a straight, you might as well denote to your chap players, “I have a flush; can you beat it?”

• state YOUR INTENTIONS
If you are folding, don’t just physically fold up your cards—declare it. As you see, call, or raise the bet, do certain that you state the table what you are doing and the amount you are adding to the pot.

• FOLDING
Whenever you fold, never, never demo your cards. This gives away valuable information to the remaining players and can seriously impact the course of the hand.

• YOU REMEMBER THIS ONE FROM KINDERGARTEN
Dont triumph and don’t be a sensitive loser.

• delay YOUR TURN
It’s bad poker etiquette to wager or fold up before your turn. Making a move out of bend impacts the determinations of the players betting before you. Likewise, if you are holding four Aces and stake out of bend you might be giving away your manus by appearing too eager. In short, hold tight and be patient!

• DON’T CRITICIZE
It displays mediocre word form to criticise or analyse a
player’s move for the benefit of the table.

• DON’T expression astatine YOUR CARDS UNTIL THEY ARE ALL DEALT TO YOU
Though there is nil technically incorrect with looking at your cards as they come, in the poker world its considered uncouth.

• bash THE CARDS SPEAK Oregon bash THE PLAYERS?
Occasionally, in games with wild cards or games with community cards, a player might misread his manus and actually have got a better manus than he declares. For instance, in a seven-card he-man game, if deuces are wild and a player is dealt a J, J, 2, 10, 9, 8, 3, he may look at his manus and say, “three Jacks,” when in tact, he have a consecutive (8, 9, 10, J, Q (the 2 Acts as a wild card)). So players should make up one's mind beforehand if the cards or the players speak.
